NextEra’s proposed $67 billion acquisition of Dominion Energy would create the world’s largest electric utility monopoly with major consequences for Virginia’s energy system and the millions of people who depend on it.

Virginia lawmakers have a responsibility to protect their constituents from the risks of this acquisition — which include higher energy costs, unchecked data center buildout and increased corporate political corruption, to name a few — yet only a handful of leaders have taken a principled position against the deal.
