Delegate Alfonso Lopez lived all over the world before his family settled in Northern Virginia. He received a BA from Vassar College and a JD from Tulane University. After law school, Lopez worked for Physicians for Social Responsibility, as a legislative assistant in the United States Senate, and for lobbying firm Alcalde & Fay. During this time he was also active in Virginia state politics, serving as the President of the Arlington Young Democrats and helping to found the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia, serving as its first president. He worked in the Kaine Governor’s Administration and later went on to serve in the Obama Administration. He was first elected in 2012.
