Clean Virginia Responds to Dominion Energy’s $275,000 Contribution to Shannon Taylor

RICHMOND, VA — In response to new campaign finance reports showing a $275,000 donation from Dominion Energy to Shannon Taylor’s campaign for attorney general — bringing the utility’s total support to $650,000 — Clean Virginia issued the following statement:

“Dominion is clearly concerned about Jay Jones’ momentum and the growing public awareness of their attempt to buy the attorney general’s office, regardless of party,” said Brennan Gilmore, Clean Virginia’s Executive Director. “Shannon Taylor should know that the AG’s job is to stand up to corporate power, not be bankrolled by it. Taking $650,000 from a monopoly raises serious doubts about whether Virginians can trust her to fight for lower costs and protect the public interest.”

The Office of the Attorney General plays a critical role in overseeing public service corporations like Dominion Energy. Every two years, the office advocates for consumers in regulatory proceedings that determine how much Dominion can charge its customers. Against that backdrop, accepting $650,000 in campaign contributions from the utility raises serious concerns about conflicts of interest, especially as Dominion seeks approval for major rate increases.
